How to use checklists in the Client Portal
This content is not available in your language yet.
Many tasks your service provider assigns you include a checklist — a structured list of specific items to complete, in order. This article explains how checklists work, how to check items off, and what to do if you get stuck.
Who can do this
Section titled “Who can do this”Any Client Portal user with tasks assigned to them that contain checklists.
Finding checklists on a task
Section titled “Finding checklists on a task”- Log in to your Client Portal.
- Click a task on your dashboard to open it.
- In the Details panel (left side on desktop, top section on mobile), scroll to the Checklist section.
The checklist shows all steps your service provider has set for this task. Each item has a checkbox on the left and a description of what to do.
Completing a checklist item
Section titled “Completing a checklist item”- Read the item description to understand what is required.
- Complete the action described — for example, upload a file, fill out a form, or review a document.
- Click the checkbox next to the item to mark it as done.
The item visually changes to show it is complete. You can uncheck it by clicking again if you made a mistake.
Checklists with multiple sections
Section titled “Checklists with multiple sections”Some tasks have more than one checklist section — typically one for your service provider’s team and one for you. You will only see interactive checkboxes on the items assigned to you. Items assigned to your service provider may appear as read-only with their own checkbox state, so you can track their progress too.
If you are unsure which items are yours, look for items that have an active (clickable) checkbox. Items you cannot interact with belong to your service provider’s side of the task.
What happens when all your items are done
Section titled “What happens when all your items are done”When you check off all the checklist items assigned to your side of the task, the task may complete automatically and move to the Completed section on your dashboard. Your service provider is notified.
Not all tasks auto-complete — it depends on how your service provider has configured the task. If the task stays in Tasks to do after you finish all your items, your service provider will review and mark it done on their end.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”I cannot check off an item
Section titled “I cannot check off an item”The item is likely assigned to your service provider, not to you. Only items assigned to you have an active checkbox. Contact your service provider if you believe the assignment is wrong.
The checklist is empty or missing
Section titled “The checklist is empty or missing”Not all tasks have checklists. If the Checklist section is absent or empty, the task may require you to simply upload a file or send a message instead of completing discrete steps. Check the task’s Note section for instructions.
I checked the wrong item
Section titled “I checked the wrong item”Click the checked item again to uncheck it.
The task did not auto-complete after I finished all items
Section titled “The task did not auto-complete after I finished all items”Auto-completion depends on the task’s setup. If it does not happen automatically, your service provider will review your work and mark the task done on their end. You do not need to do anything else — they will be notified that your side is complete.
